The European Space Agency’s (ESA) Gaia space telescope also used the same method to create a 3D map of the one billion stars in the Milky Way.

However, CHES is expected to be much more focused than Gaia, targeting 100 natural Sun-like stars 10 parsecs or 33 light-years from the Sun. Earthand able to detect potentially Earth-like planets in the habitable zone around the star.

When surveying, CHES will also be able to study the exoplanet system comprehensively.

To date, more than 5,000 exoplanets have been discovered and confirmed.

This includes about 50 Earth-like planets in the habitable zone, but most of them are hundreds of light years from Earth.

CHES will carry out its work from Lagrange Point 2, about 1.5 million kilometers from Earth, where other telescopes such as Gaia, Spektr-RG, and the James Webb Space Telescope are currently operating.
