The local press describes the party as an “orgy”, although no official statements have been made in this regard.
Sājers announced his resignation already over the weekend, but then claimed that there were “personal reasons” for it.
On Tuesday, the deputy admitted that he had been warned by the police.
Brussels prosecutors have told AFP that 20 men were caught at a party in the city center on Friday and fined € 250 each.
Meanwhile, the local press writes that it was a “sex party”.
Söder, 59, has given no indication of possible sexual activity at the party, but has publicly apologized to his family for violating Covid-19 quarantine regulations.
“I was there,” Saeder said in a statement circulated by the EP’s Conservative group.
“After the police asked about my identity because I didn’t have an ID card, I declared that I was an MEP. The police continued the procedure and finally gave me a formal verbal warning and took me home,” he said. “I deeply regret the violation of Covid’s restrictions. It was irresponsible on my part. I am prepared to pay the fine that results.”
Police have also found a drug in his backpack – an “ecstasy” pill, but Saeder has denied that it belongs to him.
Between 1990 and 2002, Saeder was elected to the Hungarian Parliament four times, and since 2004 he has been elected to the EP four times.
Fidesz calls him “the most well-known and recognizable Hungarian MEP”.
Saeder also held the position of Vice-Chair of the Group of the European People’s Party (EPP) and chaired the Fidesz Group in the EP.
He was also responsible for relations between the party and its parliamentary group.
Following the coming to power of the current Hungarian Prime Minister, Viktor Orban, in 2010, Sajer was entrusted with drafting the new constitution, which he allegedly wrote in part on his laptop, traveling by train from Brussels to Strasbourg.
Among other things, the new constitution included a provision defining marriage as a union between a man and a woman, stating that it is “the basis of family and national survival”.
However, Saeder emphasized that his violation was “completely personal” and asked that it not be extended to Hungary or his political affiliation.
