Later this year, there will be an opportunity to equip your TV with the Ambilight system, or rather something that resembles it. This will happen when Philips launches the Hue Play Gradient Lightstrips.

Hue Play Gradient Lightstrips, or Ambilight for TV, not only Philips
There are people who choose Philips TVs for one reason. For Ambilight that makes the colorful spectacle is not limited to the screen, but also takes place on the wall behind the device. Soon we will be able to guarantee such a spectacle, also when we bet on equipment from another manufacturer. Interestingly, Philips itself will allow it.
And no, Ambilight itself will not be released – Philips will offer instead LED light strips from the Hue Play brand. They are able to display many colors at the same time and blend them smoothly in a gradient to create the effect known from TV sets manufactured by TP Vision. In addition to the tapes themselves, you will also need: the Philips Hue Bridge and the Hue Play Sync adapter, which we will connect to the TV via HDMI, so that the colors displayed by the system are synchronized with those on the screen.
How much is the (3-sided) Ambilight for TV?
It won’t be cheap stuff. The bridge costs about PLN 230, the starter – about PLN 1000, and we will pay for the tapes themselves:
- 180 euro – for 55 inch TVs
- EUR 200 – for 65 inch TVs
- 230 euros – for 75 inch TVs
The prices may scare you off, but the effect is irreplaceable. It can be expected that regardless of the type of content, the show will be first-class, and whether it is worth spending 2000 zlotys on it, everyone has to consider individually.
