Ambassador for Special Operations Andrejs Pildegovićs in Washington emphasizes the importance of transatlantic and multilateral cooperation in solving global challenges

11th of 2024–On October 10, Special Operations Envoy for Global and Multilateral Affairs Andrejs Pildegovićs stayed on a working visit in Washington, USA. During the visit, the ambassador met with the Department of State’s Assistant Secretary of State for International Organizations Michel Sison (Michel Sison), Secretary General of the Organization of American States Luis Almagro (Luis Almagro(Vitas Vasiliauskas), the representative of the World Bank’s Nordic and Baltic countries on the Board of Directors, Sigrun Raveta (Sigrún Rawet)as well as researcher at the American Enterprise Institute think tank Dalibor Roháchas (Dalibor Roháč).

In a conversation with US Assistant Secretary of State M. Sison, the special operations envoy appreciated the close communication with the US and emphasized the importance of transatlantic cooperation in ‘ solving global challenges, including providing maximum support to Ukraine, as well as combining efforts to contain Russia in the long term. The officials also discussed cooperation opportunities in international organizations. The Ambassador-at-Large emphasized the need to strengthen multilateralism and reform global governance institutions, including the UN, according to today’s challenges and needs.

In a conversation with the Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS) Luisa Almagro, the officials discussed cooperation between Latvia and the European Union with the region of Latin America and the Caribbean. The Special Operations Envoy emphasized the AVO’s role in protecting the rules-based international order, particularly the organization’s strong position in condemning Russia’s aggression against Ukraine and thanks the AVO for the swift decision to suspend Russia’s observer status in the organization.

In the discussion with D. Roháčs, a researcher from the American Enterprise Institute think tank, global agenda issues, America’s position and possible solutions to overcome global management problems and challenges to the established order were discussed on international rules.
