Amazon workers will be required to return to the office starting May 1

The pandemic years were a great catalyst for many industries to adapt to remote work, but it looks like at least some of the big tech companies are going to go back to the old way of working in person.

These changes were announced by Amazon CEO Andy Jassy. The company employs not only one and a half million employees who work in warehouses and deliver shipments, but also several tens of thousands of administrative personnel. Now this group will have to work from the office three days a week.

As you can see, it is not a full five-day work week in which you will have to work from the office, maintaining the so-called hybrid work model. Returning to work in person is not directly related to employee efficiency, but to quality improvement. According to the Amazon CEO, this work model is chosen to promote communication among colleagues, which further leads to better collaboration, innovation and company culture.

The post-pandemic period when life returns to normal is challenging for big tech companies that want to see employees back in the office. Apple has already received a lot of opposition to this idea, and the question is how warmly Amazon employees will receive this news, since the information was made public only on Friday. According to the studies carried out so far, there is no proven correlation between the fact that working from home would be less efficient.
