Amazon will invest 100 million dollars in a distribution center in Deltona, a city in the center of Florida whose authorities approved a tax exemption of about 2.5 million dollars for this project, different official sources reported.
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis congratulated Amazon on Thursday for its decision to invest “100 million dollars” in Deltona, a city of about 92,000 inhabitants located in the Orlando area, in the center of the state.
The retail giant said in a statement of its decision, but without giving figures of the project, except that it will involve the creation of 500 new full-time jobs in the area, with a pay of $ 15 an hour and various benefits for workers.
The Amazon statement also makes no mention of the tax advantages approved by the Deltona Municipal Board, which, according to the Orlando Sentinel newspaper, will consist of tax refunds for five years from 2023, which will mean about $ 2.5 million.
“It’s our little Christmas gift to Deltona,” said Commissioner Robert McFall in statements to local media following the announcement of the approval of the tax exemption for Amazon.
For his part, DeSantis stressed that “Florida is still the best state in the nation to open or grow a business.”
According to local media, the distribution center will have an area of 1.4 million square feet (130,235 square meters) and will be located near the strategic Interstate 4.
According to the Amazon statement, eThe center will be responsible for collecting, packing and sending large items such as sports equipment, garden furniture, bicycles, large bags of pet food and others.
Amazon has created more than 13,500 full-time jobs in Florida since 2013 and currently has facilities in Orlando, Miami, Tampa and Jacksonville.
