Although colored readers have been on the market in the world for several years, the company Amazon has been publishing for a long time. But now the Kindle Colorsoft Signature Edition electronic book reader is finally here. And it should be just as good as their black and white Paperwhite version.
Why was the wait so long? According to VP of Product Management Kevin Keith, he said server of The Vergethe manufacturer had to deal with more complex production and the need to adapt Kaleido’s E Ink technology directly for the Kindle reader.
The novel uses a new set of displays with improved LED pixels, thus improving color clarity and page refresh speed on a “paper” display.

Inspiration in popular editing
According to the manufacturer, the color reader is based on the popular Paperwhite Signature edition. So it has the same 7-inch display, wireless charging, waterproof and lightweight body. But the battery life is lower, offering only 8 weeks out of the usual 10. This is logical, because colors use more energy. In addition, it is also endowed with 32 GB memory.
The first tests show that the reader is well done. for example Techradar server affirming that the display gives clear and bright colors, which stand out perfectly not only in comics, but also on book covers, or on the pictures in them.
Server The Verge however, he said that the new reader only allows you to make the interface a little prettier, or more colorful. However, there is not much difference between the Paperwhite version and the new version.
Users can pre-order a color reader for $280 (CZK 6,530). In the US, deliveries will begin on October 30, the rest of the world may have to wait until next year.
Kaleido technology and ink
It is a physical technology powered by tiny black and white balls. She turns them to a black or white side and thus an image is created. Once the image appears on the E Ink display, no additional energy is required to maintain it.
Normally the screen only uses battery power when it is refreshed (eg by turning to the next page). That’s why e-reader batteries last for weeks, not just hours.
This technology offers 16 levels of gray scale and up to 4096 colors. The display can combine a classic black and white panel with e-ink and Color Filter Array (CFA) technology. By applying a series of RPG filters to a monochromatic e-ink panel, the reader can display a large number of colors and shades.
This is not the only news
In addition to the color reader, Amazon has also renewed the existing models Scribe, Paperwhite and the basic Kindle, which is now available in a matcha color version. The innovations attract either better page turning speed, longer battery life or less thickness.
Kindle Scribe is supposed to feel even more like paper, thanks to the Active Canvas function it is possible to write notes directly in the book. Additionally, AI should make it possible to quickly summarize notes and entire pages of a book into concise bullet points.
The new Scribe model will cost $400 (CZK 9,328) to pre-order, and deliveries in the US will begin on December 9. You can get the Paperwhite for $160 (CZK 3,731), its Signature Edition for $200 (CZK 4,664) and the matcha version of the Kindle for $110 (CZK 2,565).
