Amazon threatens to stop trading in France

Amazon threatens to temporarily close its warehouses in the country. “We could be forced to stop operating in our logistics centers,” said the online retailer. This is due to restrictions on mail order in France. Without using the logistics centers, Amazon argues, “we would be forced to restrict a service that is important to millions of people across the country in this crisis.”

A court upheld a lawsuit by union officials on Tuesday. Amazon must now perform a risk assessment in all warehouses and take necessary health and safety measures. In the meantime, the group can only sell food, hygiene articles and medical devices. Otherwise, the company faces a fine of one million euros. According to the court, the US company did not sufficiently meet the safety and health obligations to its employees.

Amazon announced that the decision of the judiciary leaves the group at a loss. The workers were given masks, and their fever was checked. Union officials say a working group recommends closing the Amazon halls from April 16-20 to review the guards.
