Amazon stops accepting payments with British Visa credit cards

The reason turned out to be the high fees that the payment company charges for the processing of transactions

Amazon announced today that it has stopped accepting Visa credit cards issued in the UK due to a dispute over fees, world agencies and BTA reported.

The online commerce giant announced in a statement today that it will not be able to use the US company’s British credit cards to make payments from January 19, blaming the high fees that Visa charges for processing transactions.

However, buyers will be able to use Visa debit cards and other credit cards, including Mastercard and American Express, according to the Associated Press. The announcement suggests that Visa credit cards issued in other countries will continue to be accepted.

Visa has expressed strong disappointment that Amazon is threatening to limit consumer choice in the future.

The payment company points out that it maintains long-term cooperation with Amazon and the two countries will continue to work to find a solution.

The cost of accepting credit card payments remains a barrier, Amazon said.

These costs should decrease over time with the development of technology, but instead remain high and even increase further, commented the giant in online commerce, without giving figures.
