This isn’t the first time we’ve heard about Project Kuiper satellite internet, but it’s the first time Amazon has said more about its plans for Project Kuiper satellite internet. Project Kuiper satellites are expected to reach Internet speeds of 400 Mbit/s, but with the most powerful of the satellite receivers up to 1 Gbit/s.
Project Kuiper satellite Internet will be accompanied by a very small satellite receiver, which will then also provide 400 Mbit/s. This receiver will fit in a backpack and be used anywhere the sky is visible. This smaller receiver kit is expected to cost around $400.
The first Project Kuiper satellites will enter orbit only in 2024. For now, Amazon is also making no promises about Project Kuiper satellite internet coverage. It is not even clear which will be the first countries to get this internet.
Amazon plans to place a total of 3,236 Internet satellites in orbit around the Earth, but to maintain the license granted by the Federal Communications Commission, at least half of them must be launched by 2026. This means that Amazon has a lot of work to do in the coming years. 38 of all launches are planned to be carried out with the same Vulcan Centau rocket, the rest – with Arianespace and Jeff Bezos’ Blue Origin rockets.
