Amazon has now confirmed that the company is releasing three new Kindle Paperwhites: a sequel to Kindle Paperwhite, a Kindle Paperwhite Signature Edition and Kindle Paperwhite Kids.
The new Kindle Paperwhite comes with a larger screen of 6.8 inches, instead of 6 inches, with narrower edges. At the same time, the tablet retains the design from generation four and the resolution of 300ppi. The tablet now also has the option to change the color temperature of the screen backlight to a warmer tone. The more lavish Signature Edition comes with a light sensor that can automatically adjust the light.
Upgraded hardware means that Kindle Paperwhite can now turn sheets 20 percent faster and that the battery charge lasts for 10 weeks instead of 6 weeks. Charging is now done via usb-c or with a wireless Qi charger for Signature Edition.
Price for Kindle Paperwhite with 8 gigabytes of storage is $ 140, corresponding to approximately SEK 1,215 excluding VAT. Siganture Edition of 32 gigabytes is at 190 dollars, equivalent to about 1650 kronor excluding VAT. The completely ad-free Kids Edition, which is adapted for children, costs 160 dollars, corresponding to approximately 1390 kronor excluding VAT. So far, no exact Swedish prices have appeared on Amazon.
Kindle Paperwhite and Signature Edition come with four months of free access to Amazon’s Kindle Unlimited library, while Kids Edition comes with a one-year subscription to Amazon Kids Plus.
All reading platforms will be released on October 27.
