Back in September 2023, Amazon surprisingly announced that it would start advertising on its Prime Video streaming service in selected regions – including Germany – from 2024. Since the online mail order company did not give a specific date, things quickly became quiet about this. However, Amazon is now catching up: As an email to customers shows, advertising on Prime Video will start in the USA on January 29, 2024. If you want to continue to enjoy the streaming service’s content without advertising, you will have to do so from then on January 2 .99 US dollars on the table in addition to the existing subscription price.
Date for Germany uncertain
It is currently uncertain whether the date communicated for the US market also applies to Germany. It is also unknown how much Amazon will charge in this country so that customers can continue to use Prime Video without advertising. Observers suspect that the US company is converting the dollar price one-to-one into euros, meaning that in the future it will demand an additional 2.99 euros. Amazon has not yet sent any corresponding emails to its local customers. The only thing that is certain is that advertising on Prime Video in Germany will start sometime in 2024.
