Amazon Prime Video has signed an exclusive deal with the film studio Universal. Part of the contract are exclusive rights of first refusal.

Amazon has a new multi-year deal up its sleeve. The company’s in-house streaming service, Prime Video, will receive exclusive pre-emptive rights to new US blockbusters from the film studio Universal from 2022. In addition, rights to older titles from the wide-ranging Universal catalog are part of the deal.

As the industry journal “Deadline” first reported, thanks to the new mega-deal, upcoming top-class action films such as “Jurassic World: A New Age” with Chris Pratt (42) in the lead role and “Ambulance” with Jake Gyllenhaal (40) will probably first be available on Amazon Prime Video. The competitors Netflix, Disney + and Co. are initially losing out. The older Universal titles, which will also be available on Prime Video thanks to the new deal, include movie hits like “Actually … Love” and “Get Out” as well as some famous film series – including “Jurassic Park” and “Jason Bourne “.

In addition to Prime Video, the deal also includes IMDb TV, Amazon’s second US advertising-financed streaming service. He already has the right of first refusal in the USA for films of the current year, for example “Fast & Furious 9”, which will start next week in Germany, and “Old” by director M. Night Shyamalan (50) with Gael García Bernal (42) in the Leading role (release date: July 29th).
