A Huge Success with Red, White & Royal Blue Sparks Development of a Sequel

Following its phenomenal success with Red, White & Royal Blue, Amazon MGM Studios has officially given the green light for the development of a sequel to the beloved romantic comedy. Red, White & Royal Blue, based on Casey McQuiston’s bestseller, became one of the most-watched romantic comedies of all time last year.

Starring Nicholas Galitzine and Taylor Zakhar Perez, the highly anticipated sequel is set to continue the captivating story that captured the hearts of millions of global viewers.

Renowned Filmmaker and Author Collaborate on the Script

The sequel’s script will be penned by Matthew López, who made his debut with the original film. López will co-write the script alongside Casey McQuiston, the esteemed author of the source material. Bringing their talents to the production, Greg Berlanti and Sarah Schechter of Berlanti Schechter Films are set to produce the sequel. Michael McGrath of Berlanti Schechter Films and Casey McQuiston will serve as executive producers.

A Captivating Story of Love, Feuds, and Politics

The original film, released last August, follows the story of Alex Claremont-Diaz (played by Taylor Zakhar Perez) who, with his mother’s election as President, is propelled into the limelight as the American counterpart to a young royal. Alex’s charismatic image is a marketing goldmine for the White House but becomes problematic when his long-standing feud with British Prince Henry (portrayed by Nicholas Galitzine) is exposed by the tabloids.

With international relations hanging in the balance, the heads of state and family devise a plan to forge a fake friendship between Alex and Henry, but what starts as a public façade soon develops into a deeper connection. Their secret romance has the potential to complicate Alex’s mother’s re-election campaign and impact both nations, leaving everyone to question if love truly has the power to change the world.

Details about the plot of the highly anticipated sequel are being kept under wraps. The announcement regarding the sequel’s development was made during a Q&A event that followed a special screening of the original film at the renowned Culver Theater.
