Employees about to be fired received secret invitations to “mandatory” meetings with teammates, leaders and HR personnel. During the meeting, employees were informed that they would have 60 days to find a new job within the company. If they fail after this time, they will be able to use the severance pay. It’s not clear how high the severance payment Amazon offers is.
It is also unknown how easily employees will be able to find a new job. Amazon recently announced a company-wide hiring freeze that also applies to internal transfers.
An Amazon spokesperson did not respond to a request for comment.
