Amazon targets the more than 11,000 websites and social media groups that attempt to orchestrate fake reviews on Amazon and other online stores in exchange for money or free products.
Amazon’s first criminal complaint in Europe is against a broker in Italy selling fake reviews. The defendant is said to have created a network of people willing to purchase products on Amazon and give a 5-star review in exchange for a full refund of the product. These offenses can be punished in Italy with fines and prison sentences.
Also in Spain, Amazon filed a complaint against a fake review broker, Agencia Reviews. It is aimed at buyers and sellers of www.amazon.es and communicates via the Telegram messaging service so as not to be noticed.
