As on Wednesday it became known, took place in February of this year, a huge DDoS attack on Amazon’s servers. The attack volume, with the Cloud services of Amazon, the necessary infrastructure has been bombed, have to be at the peak of 2.4 terabits per second. Which service or which company was attacked, the relies on Amazon servers, is not known. The large attack but have three full days lasted and is classified as a high threat. Sustainable impacts or damage are not known.
Absolute Record
In order to reach such a load of requests, which can theoretically overload even the most stable, and usually well-secured Amazon server infrastructure, took advantage of the attackers weaknesses in different server farms, captured these, and multiplied the data load. The 2.4 Tbps record are suspicious. The largest recorded DDoS attack was held in March 2018 on the service provider NetScout and managed to “only” 1.7 Tbps.
DDoS attacks are widely used, such large-scale attacks are rare. Amazon, for example, with informed, that the largest attacks recorded between March 2018 and 2019, were smaller than 1 Tbps in size. In Austria, especially the one and one-half weeks of continuous attack on the A1 in the year 2016 is still in memory. In comparison to the now published on Amazon incident, the bandwidth was relatively small. 60 Gigabit per second, low-pecking on the A1 Server.
