Pop star Lyubo Kirov didn’t always enjoy thunderous applause. Her colorful musical career also hides dozens of stories, different from the sentiment of adoration that arouses her loyal fans today.
In the past, the Bulgarian celebrity has been the subject of criticism and negative comments, received the middle finger from the audience instead of applause and even an offer to stop singing for a certain amount.
His visit to London with the band “Them” in 2006 was the first encounter between the musician and music lovers who were negative about his songs. He talks about it in his recently published biographical book “Everything Made Sense” on the occasion of his 50th birthday.
Kirov admits that at that moment he felt a great thrill to break through abroad, to meet his fans outside the country, to hear a new and different musical wave. His plans are crowned with cruel failure.
Once in England, they head to the capital’s Redback Tavern, the place that worries them. They behave more or less well, but they don’t pick up speed. The second night remains memorable.
“We played for the locals, but we felt they didn’t like what we brought at all, nobody took it. It wasn’t long before we were booed. The club had a rock tradition, located in one of the last circles. of London – Acton Town, hosting migrants from Ireland and Australia. Guests could not stand our style. My performances were influenced by George Michael, Elton John, funk, salt, jazz. And people did. Gather to hear AC / DC and shout Metallica, we surprised them loud, it was a total clash of tastes.
A woman came out in front and I stood with my hand raised for about 15 minutes showing me my middle finger 20 cm from my face. Total bankruptcy. The manager of the club came to us and said, “Guys, please, I will pay you, get off the stage! Otherwise they will beat us,” says Kirov.
