“Student sex workers should not face any barriers to accessing support that is well-informed and free of prejudice,” the email said.
“SU’s position on college students in sex work is clear: support, information advice, de-stigmatization and collaboration with expert organizations,” the email continued, as quoted. The Independent, Saturday (11/13/2021).
However, the training has come under fire from Education Minister Michelle Donelan, who told The Times that support sessions legitimize a dangerous industry.
“University [bagian dari] The Russell Group has failed miserably in their duty to protect students by offering courses, which they say seek to normalize the sale of sex.”
One student also told the paper that it could cause real problems, make it part of the university culture and make working in the sex industry a normal activity.
But SU welfare and release officer Jonah Graham defended the course—consisting of two sessions, one for students and staff and the other for staff members only.
