Julia Szeremeta, who already had the bronze medal in her pocket, announced that she would fight for the final and did not disappoint the fans. In the semi-final, held at the Roland Garros courts, she defeated a titled opponent and will fight for gold on Saturday evening.

The first round of the semi-final fight seemed even, but the judges unanimously gave the lead to Nestha Petecio. Szeremeta found herself in a difficult situation, because she had to attack more boldly, but she did not give up. After the second round, only one of the judges indicated the victory of the Filipina, and four remained undecided.

The third match was the deciding factor, the competitors fought blow for blow, and after the end it was hard to pick a winner. Ultimately, the judges indicated the victory of the Pole! Szeremeta won on points 4-1 (28:29, 29:28, 29:28, 29:28, 29:28).

In Saturday’s final, Szeremeta’s opponent will be Taiwanese Yu Ting Lin, who defeated Turkish Esra Yildiz unanimously in the semifinal.

In the capital of France, the Pole secured for herself and the Polish national team the first women’s boxing medal, and at the same time the 44th in the history of Polish boxing at the Games.

This is also the first Olympic medal for Polish boxing in 32 years.

The previous three fights, which the Pole won decisively, took place at the North Paris Arena.

Boxing representatives chose the Roland Garros venues, well known to fans for tennis competitions, for the medal fights. It was there that Szeremeta fought her semi-final match and will fight for gold there.
