An amateur mixed martial arts fighter took matters into his own hands when an alligator poked its nose near an elementary school in Jacksonville, Florida last week.
The huge 10-foot-long beast was subdued after several attempts by Mike Dragich, a 33-year-old man who cultivates a particular interest in danger. When he’s not fighting in an octagon, he indulges in alligator trapping and even holds a license to hunt large reptiles.
Despite his wealth of experience, Dragich struggled to capture the beast by grabbing its tail. Under the cries of worried observers and the gaze of firefighters and police, he managed to muzzle her using a metal rod fitted with a net.
“For real, I felt like Batman,” the middleweight, who boasts a 2-2-0 amateur record, proudly told the FOX network.
“Many fighters will understand me: you are nervous before a fight, but once the cage door is closed, you have to be focused. That’s all I remember of that night.”
Not only did Dragich emerge unscathed from this delicate operation, but he also revealed to TMZ Sports that his community planned to celebrate this victory by tasting the alligator. A story in the image of the “Sunshine State”!
