Amaro Huelva Urges President Moreno to Address Poverty Crisis in Andalusia

Amaro Huelva has indicated that “child poverty levels in Andalusia are at maximum levels. The rate of children at risk is around 30%, one of the highest in Europe. In fact, one in three children is at risk.” of poverty”. “In addition,” he added, “20% of minors live in homes that cannot pay mortgage or rent, while 43.5% of families with children do not have the economic capacity to deal with unforeseen events. In fact, “If one of these children gets sick, their parents cannot go to private healthcare and can only hope that nothing bad happens to them due to the lack of public pediatricians, as is the case in Huelva.” For this reason, the socialist has asked Moreno for “sensitivity to this drastic situation for many families in Andalusia and our province, and to allocate funds to complete the initiative developed by the Government of Spain, together with the EU, to provide material assistance to those families with dependent children. Amaro Huelva has stressed that “these funds could perfectly come from the 43 million euros that the Andalusian Government cut from the Minimum Income for Social Insertion or from the item that had to be allocated to this European Social Program Plus (ESF+).” Likewise, the socialist has stressed that “it is also necessary to direct efforts to third sector entities that collaborate with the distribution of food for the most needy families.” The Huelva senator has asked Moreno for “involvement, although unfortunately, we have to remember and reproach the position of the PP which, until now, has voted against the package of anti-crisis measures of the Government of Spain and against the reductions in VAT on basic foods , as well as electricity or gas”. For this reason, Amaro Huelva has evaluated “very positively” the battery of measures of the Socialist Group in the Parliament of Andalusia, through a Non-Law Proposition (PNL), “aimed at combating these scandalous figures of poverty in our community, with measures such as increasing the resources of the town councils or increasing the staff of Social Services”.
