The bear Amarena caused a little spectacle in San Sebastiano dei Marsi, among locals and holidaymakers. There she is considered a minor “celebrity”.
What astonishes many holidaymakers in Italy at first sight is nothing unusual for the residents of the beautiful area around Bisegna, in the Abruzzo National Park. A mother bear roams through the small village of San Sebastiano dei Marsi in the evenings, her two cubs in tow. Those present observe them and film the animal visit. The video from @gemmadipi is taking over social media.
The bear is no stranger to the village
You can see the bear calmly leading her offspring through the streets, looking around several times, then running down a flight of stairs to disappear into the darkness with her children. Another bear mom reads her offspring the riot act in the middle of the street. The area is now known for bear sightings. And Amarena (people call it that because she likes cherries so much) isn’t visiting the village for the first time either. And this bear is often out and about in the neighbour’s garden. That’s why there should also be certain regulations there that forbid you to approach the animals. Even if Amarena is considered peaceful, you are asked not to provoke the bear.

Do not approach bears just to take photos
This is to avoid any dangerous attacks and at the same time protect the bears. A mother animal who wants to defend her young can certainly become a danger. And so the mayor guesses loudly The messenger of the location: “In the event of a close encounter, do not chase or disturb the bear. This could be dangerous for your own safety and that of the animals.”
Nevertheless, the sight of the small family is quite cute to look at – at the appropriate distance, of course, and calmly and without hectic movements.
