Shortly after 1 in the afternoon on Friday 11/15, the grandmother of little Panagiotakis voluntarily presented herself to the General Police Directorate of Attica to testify about the death of her grandson last August. With her and a minor niece, who has to describe, as it is said, an incident of violence with Irini.
Their testimony comes a few hours after the marathon testimony of Panagiotakis’ mother.
He “burned” Irini Murtzoukou
Panagiotakis’ mother, 27-year-old Popi, voluntarily went to GADA on Thursday and opened all her papers, in a deposition that started at 2 in the afternoon and ended shortly after 9 in the evening.
She spoke about everything she saw with her own eyes, everything that preceded her son’s death with her descriptions of not only “burning” Irini Murtzoukou, but also forcing her to rebuild herself.
While the 24-year-old maintained all this time that the living Panagiotakis vomited at home, in the car and at the hospital, this morning for the first time Irini said that maybe the baby passed out in the car, an indirect admission that the baby arrived dead at the hospital .
Popi’s deposition
Popi’s testimony will bring a new twist to the case.
According to LIVE NEWS’ exclusive information, the child’s mother testified that at home there were constant fights and arguments that even led to fistfights. She claimed that Irini was pathologically jealous of her, something she had confided in a friend.
In her testimony, however, she revealed that two days before the child died, there had been an intense fight, which continued the night before the baby died. The experienced executives particularly focused on this point as perhaps that is where the motive is hidden, if it turns out of course that it was a criminal act.
“We have said to separate because one of my daughters is essentially left,” Popi had said explaining why she kicked Irini out of the house some time ago.
The threat to Peace
According to information, during her testimony yesterday, Popi revealed that she received threats from Irini for the life of her other child, her 8-year-old daughter, both before and after the death of Panagiotakis.
“The night before, before my child died we had a heated argument with Irini. In this episode he told me in a strong tone that he is going to hurt me. He threatened me even after the death of Panagiotakis. He threatened to go to the police and say that I was not taking care of my children and so they would take my daughter away from me. I was afraid to speak.”
Irini Murtzoukou gave her own answer to what Popi claimed to the police.
“I’m not well, I’m hearing things that never happened. Not everything they say is true. I would never threaten children. What I had with Popi was our fight.”
Pope’s contradiction
The 27-year-old gave a clear answer about how she found her baby when she returned from the bathroom. There had been some confusion as in the first interviews he only talked about difficulty breathing.
Afterwards she recalled that her son vomited blood at home and in all her statements she denied that she found her baby bruised with his tongue sticking out.
Regardless of what she said publicly, the 27-year-old told the police – both in her first statement and in yesterday’s – that when she came out of the bathroom she saw her child bruised, a fact that reasonably raises the question of what she was afraid of and did not reveal the whole truth.
Perhaps this also explains the contradictions in which the 27-year-old has fallen, as she went from harshly accusing the doctors to questioning whether her child was actually alive when she got into the car.
“I was in the bathroom. After 2′ I turned around and found my child not breathing. It was bruised. He started throwing up on the couch. We went to the hospital. Irene was holding the child on the road. I’m not a doctor to know if the kid was alive but he was bruised. I want everyone to be investigated for my son’s death. I can’t be sure who may or may not be a suspect.”
The child’s grandmother and two of Irene’s ex-partners testify
Popi didn’t see her son either throwing up in the car or even smiling in the video call, as his grandmother said.
The grandmother of Panagiotakis, of course, in her testimony today, is expected, according to information, to argue that she is not so sure that she saw the child alive in the video call and that she might have been confused especially if someone else was shaking his little hand.
The underage niece of Panagiotakis’ mother, the cousin of the little boy who lost his life, is also expected to testify today. The information states that the girl is expected to confirm incidents of abuse and violence by Irini towards family members.
In addition to these two women, two former partners of Irini are testifying at this time.
“Popi had asked Irini to divorce”
Stavros Balaskas, special police analyst, spoke to LIVE NEWS.
“Everyone changes, even Irene. He says ‘the child might as well have been dead’. Everyone wants to show their best self. Mom took 8 hours to testify. The lawyer said today publicly that he was “keeping” her (Irini Popi). Popi had asked Irini for a divorce two days before. Since yesterday, Irini has an eye on her back.”
The cycle of depositions has opened and the investigation continues at a rapid pace by Homicide. One more reason for witnesses to testify only to the true facts.

Interview with Guest 1: Amalia, the Grandmother of Lithos Panagiotakis, and Guest 2: Mari, a Child Psychologist with Expertise in Child Abuse Cases.
Section 1: Grandmother’s Testimony and Allegations of Domestic Violence within the Family
Host: Good day, Amalia and Mari. Thank you for joining us today. Amalia, as the grandmother of little Panagiotakis, you have presented yourself to the General Police Directorate of Attica to testify about the death of your grandson last August. Can you tell us a little more about what you shared in your testimony regarding the allegations of domestic violence within the family?
Amalia: Thank you for having me. During my testimony, I shared my concerns about the constant arguing and fighting that I observed between Irini Murtzoukou and Popi, which often escalated into physical altercations. This behavior was not only between them but also involved their daughter. It was clear to me that there was a toxic environment in their home, and I felt that something terrible might happen if nothing was done.
Host: That’s a heavy accusation, Amalia. Do you have any specific incidents that you can share to support your claim?
Amalia: Yes, there was one instance where Popi came to my house with bruises on her face, claiming that Irini had hit her. She also told me that Irini was pathologically jealous of her and had confided in a friend about her feelings. Additionally, the night before Panagiotakis passed away, there was a heated argument between them, which further highlighted the constant tension in their relationship.
Host: Mari, as a child psychologist, how common is it to see such patterns of behavior in a young family? What are some possible underlying causes for these conflicts?
Mari: It’s distressing to hear about the level of violence alleged in this case. Domestic violence is a complex issue, and sadly, it can happen in any family. In this situation, it’s possible that there were deep-seated emotional issues that contributed to the conflict, such as jealousy or insecurity. It’s also possible that substance abuse or mental health problems were contrib
