Crown Princess Amalia lived and studied in Madrid for more than a year because of her security situation. Sources report this to the NOS. She now lives in Amsterdam.
In October 2022 it became clear that Amalia was facing serious threats. As a result, she was forced to live at home and could not go out on the street. It now appears that she lived and studied in Madrid for about a year. Amalia also indicated in previous conversations that she was having a very difficult time due to the situation and missed normal life. She had more freedom of movement in the Spanish capital.
According to sources, the threat has not disappeared, but through measures she can live and study in the Netherlands again. It is not known what those measures are.
‘Situation hit hard’
King Willem-Alexander said in the podcast Through the eyes of the king among other things, that the situation had “had a very hard impact” on his daughter and his family. “The uncertainty, the lack of freedom, that is not how you want to raise your children and what you want to pass on to your children,” he said. He also said he was proud of her for how she stuck with it all.
The state visit of the Spanish king and queen starts tomorrow. Amalia is also present for the first time on a state visit to the Netherlands. It is not entirely coincidental that this is the state visit of Spain. Amalia herself will be speaking for the first time on King’s Day.
Amalia said during her visit to Sint Maarten last year that she missed “normal life, the life of a student” and was having a very difficult time:
