Tepic, Nayarit. The 2024 Amado Nervo National Poetry Prize was awarded to the work Escenas Difusas al Fondo del Paisaje by León Plascencia Ñol from Jalisco.
Members of the jury, made up of the State Council for Culture and the Arts of Nayarit (CECAN), described the collection of poems as “a very well-constructed book that fulfills its proposal impeccably, delving into the disease as a topic that is addressed from different perspectives.”
The artistic merit award was also given to Queta Navagomez, a recognition of his invaluable contribution to literature with more than 20 books published, and as a young man he represented Mexico in national and international athletics competitions of 800 and 1,000 metres.
The award ceremony took place at the start of the 23rd edition of the Amado Nervo Festival in which a tribute is paid to “our illustrious poet and is a meeting space for the cultural diversity that defines our state and defines us because it is inspired by a universal Nayarita,” said Bertha Lilia Arce Sánchez, general director of CECAN.
The essence of the festival “is to open the doors to all souls, all voices and all stories. In this edition, 14 municipalities are transformed into stages of art, music, dance and literature, consolidating the commitment to the decentralization of culture,” added Arce Sánchez.
In addition, Bertha Arce assured that more than 140 cultural events have been organized, in more than 80 venues, which reflects the effort “to bring art and culture to all corners of the state, since this festival is a testimony” of enhancing the local culture.
The presence of the Symphony of the Secretariat of National Defense, and Horacio Franco, a prominent Mexican flutist, stood out.
The Festival was inaugurated by the Secretary General of the Government, Rocío Esther González García, representing Governor Miguel Ángel Navarro Quintero.
