The current socket AM4 is probably the final one in terms of classic sockets (sensu stricto), with AM5 it will be an LGA version. However, the square design will remain and the dimensions will probably not change significantly. The edge should be 40 millimeters. The number of contacts will increase from the current 1331 to 1718, which will slightly exceed the LGA-1700 planned Intel, which is slightly larger with a rectangular floor plan of 37.5 × 45 millimeters.
Socket AM5 will support two-channel connection of DDR5 memory, which was somehow expected.
According to the leak, ExecutableFix will not support PCIe 5.0, which I consider a very bold statement. I even dare say that the author confuses the specifications of the first generation platform with the AM5 socket (Raphael) with socket parameters. Just like the first generation of the platform with the AM4 socket did not support PCIe 4.0, but the other ones did, so it will probably be with the AM5 socket as well. PCIe 5.0 does not change the number of contacts, so the transition from PCIe 4.0 to 5.0 is a transparent matter from a socket perspective.
DDR5-4800
However, from this information we can conclude that in contrast to the server version Zen 4, processors Genoawhere PCIe 5.0 is confirmed, there will be no desktop version Zen 4, processors Raphael, with PCIe 5.0 count.
It is not yet known exactly when the premiere of the AM5 socket will take place. Sure, it will be in 2022, but there is conflicting information. About a month ago, fairly reliable sources spoke of announcing a new generation of processors from September to October, with availability expected in October to November. In contrast, the editorial staff of the Anandtech website indicated in a January inquiry (addressed to AMD CEO Lisa Su) that it could be released in the first half of the year – however, the CEO did not deny this release date. However, it is possible that between January and May, the release date was shifted from the first to the second half of the year. However, AMD never publicly confirmed an official date other than 2022.
