The money
The money from the socks goes entirely to scientific research at the Amsterdam Alzheimer Center, where they work hard to develop treatments for brain diseases such as Alzheimer’s. “Alzheimer’s is one of the biggest health problems of our time,” said Prof. Yolande Pijnenburg, medical director of the Alzheimer’s Center. “Every step of the research brings us closer to a dementia-free future.”
This year, extra attention will be paid to genetic research, as dementia is partly hereditary. Sven van der Lee, physician and geneticist, attached to the Department of Human Genetics and Alzheimer’s Center at UMC Amsterdam, explains: “Our DNA contains key starting points for treatments. More research is needed, and that costs money. By purchasing Alzheimer Socks you are supporting this research.”
