Alytis businessman Žilvins Treigys, who was registered by the Central Election Commission (CEC) as an independent political campaign participant in the upcoming presidential elections on the last possible registration day, changed his mind and withdrew from the election campaign before it even started.

Ž. Treigys withdrew from the presidential election two weeks after registering as a participant in the election campaign. He expressed his desire not to participate in the elections, and his status as an independent political campaigner was revoked on March 3. “The applicant did not specify the reason for his withdrawal. According to the legal acts, he was not obliged to do that”, said Indrė Ramanavičienė, adviser to the CEC chairman, to “Dainava kožiši”

For many people from Aly, Ž. Treigi’s decision to register as a participant in the presidential election campaign was unexpected, as the manager of Glass Market UAB had never participated in municipal elections before, and had never belonged to any political party. Shortly after registering as a participant, Ž. Treigys described to the media his decision to run for the presidency as a very brave step, admitting that he has neither a staff nor a team, because the decision to register as a participant came just a few days before the end of registration. However, he expressed hope that young people, hearing that he intends to participate in republican politics, will find him and join him. Ž. Treigys said that he is familiar with the Scandinavian model of politics, according to which political decisions are made after the community has decided. This is not the case in Lithuania, which is why he intends to seek the post of president.

Ž. Treigys was the fourteenth contender among the candidates who intended to compete for the post of head of state on May 12. in the upcoming presidential elections. “Singing for the word” with Ž. Couldn’t get through to Treig, he would promise to call back and either didn’t or didn’t answer.

Ž. After Treigis withdrew from the election campaign, there are currently 13 candidates, one candidate, Ingrida Šimonytė, has already collected the required number – 20 thousand. – voters’ signatures. 10 candidates are currently collecting voters’ signatures: Giedrimas Jeglinskas, Andrius Mazuronis, Gitanas Nausėda, Arūnas Rimkus, Valdas Tutkus, Eduardas Vaitkus, Aurelijs Veryga, Ignas Vėgėlė, Dainius Žalimas and Remigijus Žemaitaitis. 2 participants of the election campaign – Zenonas Andrulėnas and Gintautas Kniukšta – have not yet started collecting voters’ signatures. They will be able to do this only after submitting declaration documents to the CEC. If they do not do this by March 8 at 5 p.m., these two political campaign participants will no longer be able to participate in the Presidential elections.

Along with the application documents, applicants must submit a certificate of paid presidential election deposit of 8,995 euros – this is one of the application documents.

Deposits must be paid by prospective candidates from their personal account, they will be returned if candidates collect at least 7%. votes, will submit financial statements and will not commit gross violations.

Prospective candidates can submit application documents until March 8. After submitting the declaration documents, the applicants will receive voter signature sheets. They will be registered as candidates if they collect at least 20 thousand. voters’ signatures. Signatures can be collected until March 28.

If all those who wanted to become leaders of the state had participated in the election political campaign, there would have been 20 of them. Six persons – Andrej Deivius Ginevičius, Kęstutis Macevičius, Antanas Kandrotas, Irma Gajauskaitė, Petra Gražulis, Jonas Jankauskas – the CEC refused to register for election political campaigns for one reason or another participants. Some of them even tried to register as participants twice.

The political campaign for the presidential election started on November 12 last year and will end one hundred days after the announcement of the election results – on September 10.

The practice of presidential elections shows that fewer candidates participate in the elections than the number of participants registered in the primary stage. How many of the 13 candidates will join the fray this time will be revealed in May.
