Indonesia also sent its representative to the men’s singles final at the 2023 World Junior Championships. Appearing confident, Alwi Farhan beat Ayush Shetty from India with a score of 21-18, 21-15 in 37 minutes.
“Thank God, I was able to win. Actually, I didn’t think I would be able to reach the final. However, I can’t be satisfied because tomorrow there is still a final match to be won,” said Alwi.
Alwi’s victory not only earned him a ticket to the final, but also paid off Ayush’s defeat. In the first meeting in the semifinals of Denmark Junior 2021, Alwi was defeated by Ayush in three games 21-16, 17-21 and 21-23.
“Indeed, in the previous meeting it was tight. However, now from the start I have prepared a pattern to face the opponent. It turns out the opponent’s playing pattern is as I predicted. The opponent also plays with a pattern like what I prepared from the start. So you could say it went smoothly,” added Alwi.
In the final, Alwi will face Hu Zhe An. The third seeded player from China in the semifinals won over the first seeded Frenchman Alex Lanier 22-20, 22-20.
In the previous meeting in the team final for the Suhandinata Cup when Indonesia lost 1-3 against China, last week, Alwi Farhan was able to beat Hu Zhe An 21-15, 19-21 and 21-13.
On the other hand, in the semifinals of the 2023 Asian Junior Championships in Yogyakarta, Alwi lost 17-21 and 13-21.
“To face the final match, I have to focus on recovery, preparing my mind set, mindset and also motivation. I ask for prayers and support from the Indonesian people so that the two Indonesian representatives can bring home the trophy,” hoped Alwi again.
