Alwi Farhan Creates History as the First Indonesian Men’s Singles Badminton Player to Win the 2023 BWF World Junior Championship in the US

KOMPAS.com– Alwi Farhan Alhasny made history as the first Indonesian men’s singles badminton player to win the 2023 BWF World Junior Championship in the United States (US).

“In the beginning he took part in soccer in Solo, he even became captain at the regional sports week (Popda) at elementary school level in Solo, but his older brother played badminton and then finally he took part in studying together,” said Muhammad Anis, Alwi Farhan’s father, in Solo as written Between.

Muhammad Anis said that when he was in third grade at elementary school, Alwi, who was born in Solo on May 12 2005, tried to practice badminton with his older brother.

Physically, Alwi’s body is quite supportive because it was formed from playing football.

Alwi’s character, who often plays hard and has good enough speed, makes it easy for him to learn badminton.

PB Obsessi Solo coach Slamet Widodo said Alwi Farhan initially practiced football, but he then joined his older brother in badminton practice when he was in the 3rd grade of elementary school.

“He does have a good physique and good stamina,” said Slamet Widodo.

Then, Alwi joined PB Saribumi Solo, with coach Jatmiko.

After that, Alwi then took part in several local badminton championships and often became champion. Not long after, he was recruited by the Mansion Exist club from Jakarta.

When he was in grade 4 and 5 of elementary school, Alwi was sent to take part in a championship in Thailand and won a gold medal.

He also got gold when he competed in South Korea. Finally, Alwi decided to take a sport seriously.

“Yes, he likes sports, when he was still playing football, he was often the top scorer in various tournaments,” said Muhammad Anis.

He admitted that he was very grateful after Alwi Farhan was able to present the first title in men’s singles badminton at the BWF World Junior Championship in America to his beloved country, Indonesia.

“Because, an athlete’s highest goal is when he can fly his country’s flag,” said Anis.

However, he realized that Alwi Farhan had to integrate as quickly as possible from junior to senior level so that his achievements would continue to grow.

“We hope that Alwi Farhan will continue to struggle, be humble, be able to excel and of course make useful contributions to the nation and state when taking part in big championships. Alwi is very loving towards his family and is polite and devout in worship,” said Muhammad Anis.
