“I’ve been depressed for two years, music was our outlet and it’s something we haven’t had for two years,” explains Adam, the accordionist. We still cannot say that morale has returned to good shape for the six musicians of Jacky Melody’s group. Indeed, while the year 2021 was already proving to be complicated, the artists’ schedule remains practically empty for the months to come: “The situation has changed very little, we are still in depression, in desolation…” insists the founder of the group, Jacques Jankowski, alias Jacky.

“We are on stand-by”
Even though restrictions are slowly easing, uncertainty remains. The Bambiderstroff 2022 carnival has notably been canceled, like many others, for the second consecutive year, a disappointment for Jacky Melody’s orchestra, which has hosted the event for almost 41 years, “It’s the biggest carnival from Moselle Est, it brings together around 2,000 people and it is an opportunity for us to bring together the entire orchestra”. A major economic and psychological loss for musicians. “There is an ambient reluctance, people no longer want to come, they don’t want to dance with the mask, some are afraid of catching the Covid, and the organizers have too many constraints and are not sure of be profitable”.
Despite everything, a few dates are planned for the next few weeks “with great uncertainties”, particularly in Luxembourg and Thionville, the opportunity to feed a little on the applause of the public, “the bread of artists”, as it likes to call Jacky back.
