The next iPhone would be equipped with an always-on screen, on which the time can be seen without activating the device, says the usually well-informed smartphone journalist Max Weinbach in a video from EverythingApplePro.
The special display would also show how full the battery is. Incoming notifications are briefly displayed, after which an icon appears in a corner of the screen.
According to Weinbach, the smartphone will have a screen with a refresh rate of 120 Hz, so that animations in the interface and games are displayed more smoothly. The journalist previously claimed that the iPhone 12 also got this upgrade, but this didn’t happen then.
Competitors including Samsung have been offering always-on screens on their phones for years. The function is relatively energy efficient, because the OLED and AMOLED screens used can activate limited parts of the image. Apple has also been using OLED in iPhone displays since 2017.
The Apple Watch has also had an always-on screen for several years, so that the time can be displayed without activating the entire screen. This makes the smartwatch function more like a traditional watch.
Better cameras and magnets
Weinbach also discusses earlier rumors about the iPhone 13 in the video. For example, the device would get better ultrawide cameras and the wireless charger on the back has stronger magnets to hold the cable.
Apple has not yet announced anything about the iPhone 13. The new devices are expected to be presented around September.
