Pictures: Älvsjö BMX new track inaugurated – this is how it works

Stockholm’s new BMX track has now opened. The track, which Älvsjö BMX and the city of Stockholm developed, is the first in Stockholm that is adapted for competitions.

– Getting an international competition arena in Stockholm means a big step for the development of Swedish race BMX. Several cyclists and enthusiasts are eager to use the track, comments Håkan Staf in a press release from the City of Stockholm.
The new BMX track is located in Hökarängen, next to the Högdalstopparna, where there used to be a gravel track. The track began to be built in the summer of 2022 and meets the requirements set out in the Swedish Cycling Association’s regulations for training and competition activities.

The facility is built for both children, young people and elite athletes. It enables both competitions, spontaneous sports and other events in the sport of BMX.
The opening took place on 1 July and in connection with that the very first competition took place on the track – the Swedish BMX Championships organized by Älvsjö BMX and the Swedish Cycling Association.
There were USM, SM and challenge competitions for all ages. Over a hundred children, young people and adults from Sweden’s various BMX clubs gathered during the day. See the competition from opening day: BMX SM 2023 Stockholm BMX Arena
The newly built track is built and designed with a layout and technical sections with fast-paced straights and tough curves to challenge all types of BMX riders.
Älvsjö BMX is Sweden’s largest BMX club with everything from beginners to national team riders.
– Previously, the club had one of the country’s smallest courts, so there will be a big difference now. Above all, young people and adults can now practice technique at a higher level.
At the new BMX arena there is also a so-called pump track for spontaneous sports, a service building and stands.
Now there is a summer break on the track for the public, but the pump track remains open all summer. Just in time for the start of school open training started on Tuesday evenings where adults cycle with their children on the track.
