Jakarta, CNN Indonesia –
Indonesian Ombudsman Members, Alvin Lie, get back subsidized study quota from the Ministry of Education and Culture for another 35 GB. Previously at the end of last September, Alvin also received a similar subsidy which was automatically sent to his telephone number.
“Today, Saturday, October 31, 2020, for the umpteenth time I was contacted by the Call Center Telkomsel 188, please convey information that my number has received a subsidized internet quota of 35GB, “Alvin said in his statement, Saturday (31/10).
When it was confirmed again, Alvin stated that he had never activated any packages and the number he used was only used for calling and sending short messages. He has also turned off the internet feature.
“That’s the info I got from the Tsel Call Center this morning. I never activated it because I have turned off all features for my cellphone number for years. Especially for Voice Calls & SMS,” Alvin told CNNIndonesia.com, Saturday (31 / 10).
Alvin explained that he was still registered as a doctoral student at Diponegoro University, Semarang, so that it was included in the criteria for those who received subsidized assistance. But he admitted that he didn’t need it.
“I don’t need the subsidized quota because the subsidized internet quota should be prioritized for elementary to high school students, especially those whose economies are less fortunate,” explained Alvin.
Then, according to him, more useful internet quotas are channeled to teachers and lecturers to ease their burden in implementing Distance Learning (PJJ), as well as to students undergoing undergraduate education.
“Even if students are given it, it should be enough to go to S1 because almost all of the S2 and S3 participants have worked and are relatively better able to pay for their own internet access needs,” he said.
“Not even a few have received subsidies from companies or institutions where they work,” he continued.
He has also reported this to the Ministry of Education and Culture in the early stages of providing a subsidy quota in September 2020.
“The Ministry of Education and Culture has also repeatedly told me that my number has been removed from the list of subsidized internet quota recipients. Strangely, Telkomsel is diligently contacting me to tell me that my number has received a subsidized internet quota of 35GB and that it should be activated immediately,” he said.
“It’s magical. I don’t know where the chaos is. What is certain is that public or state money or the state budget to pay for the quota is redundant.”
Kemendikbud is known to subsidize quotas for students, students, teachers and lecturers. The quota subsidy phase one received September 22-24 and the second on October 28-30.
When the issue of providing internet quota for Alvin Lie for the first time, the Ministry of Education and Culture stated that it would revoked Alvin’s subsidies in the second term.
