Jakarta (ANTARA) – Aruba. It Ducati racer Alvaro Bautista said that his victory in the World Superbike (WSBK) Donington Park, England, last weekend, was achieved with great difficulty due to fierce competition from other teams.
Bautista didn’t even think he could stand on the podium, let alone come out as a champion.
“If you had told me before coming here that we would finish first I would not have believed it because normally we struggle at this track. Fortunately, my feelings with the bike are great, just like on other tracks,” said Bautista, quoted from the official WSBK statement, Tuesday.
British WSBK Race 2 started with a red flag due to an accident involving Tom Sykes, Michael Ruben Rinaldi and Loris Baz.
After the restart, Bautista battled Toprak Razgatlioglu (Pata Yamaha Prometeon) for the lead. Bautista ultimately emerged victorious, securing a second race victory at Donington Park.

Bautista’s dominant performance also extended his advantage in the championship standings with 357 points.
“In Race 2 the pace was incredible, very fast. Toprak is also very strong. I thought I could be a few tenths faster than him and I tried to run away in front of him, but he knew that, and he was trying not to let me overtake him. But in the end, I was able to have a moment and some benefits,” said Bautista.
On the other hand, Danilo Petrucci (Barni Spark Racing) won his first podium in WSBK by finishing in third place. Scott Redding (ROKiT Team BMW Motorrad) achieved his best result of the season, finishing in fourth place after a final battle with Rea and Alex Lowes (Kawasaki Racing), who finished fifth and sixth respectively.
“I’m very happy especially for my team and for myself. Only two rounds ago, in Barcelona, I said ‘it’s more difficult than I thought’. We did a good job this time… It was difficult for me (to digest it all). I did not expect to reach my first podium, “said Petrucci.
Meanwhile, the seventh round of WSBK will continue in Italy on July 14 to 16.
