Mexican Saul Canelo Alvarez defeated Briton John Ryder and retained the title of absolute world boxing champion in the second middleweight (up to 76.2 kg). The fight took place in the Mexican city of Zapopan.

The fight lasted 12 rounds and ended with the victory of Alvarez by unanimous decision.

All four of Alvarez’s super middleweight titles were at stake – according to the World Boxing Association (WBA), the World Boxing Organization (WBO), the World Boxing Council (WBC) and the International Boxing Federation (IBF). The 32-year-old Mexican was able to defend all the belts.

Alvarez promised to defeat Bivol for the sake of his pride and Mexico

Alvarez in his last fight in September last year defeated Kazakh Gennady Golovkin. Prior to that, on May 8, he lost to Russian Dmitry Bivol, WBA super light heavyweight champion (up to 79.38 kg). It was his first loss since 2013. The Mexican has previously stated that he would like to have a rematch with Bivol.

In total, Alvarez has 59 wins, two losses and two draws. Ryder, 34, has 32 wins and six losses. The Briton held the interim WBO super middleweight title before the fight with Canelo, in 2019 he had the interim WBA title.
