The Hamburg fish market should open again. This is what the SPD parliamentary group in the Altona district has called for.
For 14 months there has been dead silence on Sunday mornings at the fish auction hall, where 70,000 tourists and locals used to enjoy themselves on summer Sundays. Altona’s SPD district faction calls on the administration to finally reopen the market with “Aale Dieter” and other originals. The MP Andreas Bernau fears for the existence of the showmen and women. He says: “Some people say that the fish market will never be what it used to be: a Hamburg landmark! We must resolutely prevent that.”
The opening concept has not yet been implemented
After much back and forth, Altona’s district office had developed an opening concept in October – but the increasing corona numbers made opening impossible. It provided for a one-way system with only one entrance and one exit. 20 security guards were supposed to ensure order and only let in a total of 500 visitors and 60 dealers. The economic and financial authorities made additional funds available for this. But it never came to that.
