Many watched the performances of the Austrian athletes at the Olympic Games in Tokyo. Gerhard Köhler is someone who has already experienced Olympic flair. He recently became the new headmaster at the Laabental Middle School. In 2006 he qualified in the two-man bobsleigh for the Olympic Winter Games in Turin and was also able to celebrate successes. His impressions of the sports spectacle still give him goose bumps today. “You start for Austria at the Olympic Games and that’s what makes it so unique,” he says, adding: “Just the move in at the opening, side by side with a Hermann Maier, Benni Raich, Felix Gottwald and a Michi Dorfmeister will be unforgettable . “

Today Köhler hopes to be able to pass on his enthusiasm for the sport to his and other children. “Sarah and David have the potential to be at the Olympic Games one day,” the family man says happily. His daughter plays land hockey and this year she won the youth championship with the AHTC Vienna. Son David plays handball at the West Wien club and as a legionnaire wants to go to the German Bundesliga. “It is important that my children can get enthusiastic about sport,” says Köhler. He also does sports with the children in middle school. The fifth holiday game campaign recently took place with his summer camp. 13 children were able to try out their climbing skills. There was also an obstacle course. “The children were there with great enthusiasm,” Gerhard Köhler praised the participants.
