In The High North Dionne follows six families for a year who choose the icy north. One family has been living there for a while, the other family is about to leave. Why do they dream of living in an extreme polar climate in northern Norway? And what is it like to live self-sufficiently in the Swedish wilderness?
In the first episode, Dionne meets boat builders Cornelis and Patricia and sheep farmers Rob and Astrid in Norway. In the woods of Sweden she visits Martijn, Anne and their son Espen. She also meets the Ellerbrak family, where the necessary tears flow at the start of their adventure in Sweden.
Viewers are impressed by the beautiful Scandinavia and the brave choice of the families. “Great if you dare to do this,” it sounds. And: ‘Great programme, special to see how people make their dreams come true! Travel programs are always a pleasure.’
Unfortunately, Dionne gets less praise. In fact, some viewers prefer to see Floortje Dessing present this program. ‘Couldn’t they just have sent Floortje instead of this canal-town Dionne? Then the program would come across a lot more sympathetic and credible’, pens a viewer. Another describes Omroep MAX’s train of thought: ‘What Floortje can do, our Stax can do too.’ Better stolen well than badly made up. So failed…”
The High North can be seen every Monday at 8.20 pm at Omroep MAX on NPO 1 and you can look back here.
Dionne also dreams of living abroad. The presenter previously told RTL Boulevard about her future plans with her boyfriend:
