Misano –
Andrea Dovizioso success took over the leadership of the standings over MotoGP San Marino. However, Dovizioso was frustrated by his speed.
The Ducati rider only finished seventh in the race at the Misano Circuit, Sunday (13/9/2020). Starting from ninth position, Dovizioso passed the checkered flag with a difference of 10.358 seconds from Franco Morbidelli who emerged as the winner.
The race results confirmed Dovizioso’s ‘suffering’ throughout this weekend. Dovizioso has never been competitive since free practice after being only the tenth fastest rider in the combined session.
Nonetheless, nine points were pocketed Dovizioso was enough to get him to the top MotoGP standings. The Italian racer is now collecting 76 points, six points ahead of Fabio Quartararo who was forced to retired after falling twice in the middle of the race.
Dovizoso was dissatisfied with the inconsistency. Despite his success on the podium twice (once winner), the 34-year-old racer only finished fifth in the other four races.
“My problem is speed. During my career I have been a very consistent racer, so in a situation like this, I will not be bothered if we are fast at the right time. But now I’m not that and this bothers me,” said Dovizioso. GPOne.
“This is not a problem because there is no Marquez, who has dominated the last few years so that now many riders are winning. On the other hand, this should be one of my strengths because when a lot of riders win, I’m usually there too.”
“But no, and we need to improve, otherwise we will have a hard time competing for the world title. At this speed it won’t be enough until the end of the season to win the championship,” Dovizioso add.
