Núñez considered both the future and the current situation around vaccination against covid-19 and debunked some of the most common myths around the subject. He was adamant in questioning the attitude of wanting to choose vaccines. “It is not an ice cream shop where we can go to choose a flavor, we need strict immunization”, Emphasized the doctor, appealing that everyone who can get immunized as soon as possible.

“You have to be vaccinated with the vaccine that is available, in the closest place to your home and in the shortest possible time,” he insisted and even considered that in the future we might need to alternate between the different existing platforms, or that new reinforcements arise.
“The fact that one applies a vaccine does not mean that we do not have to apply another one again, I am convinced that the future in these vaccines would be alternations of platforms, modifications in the doses, for example, there are some that require a third dose and other schemes where vaccine platforms will be combined and let’s say, new platforms that we have not received yet ”, he stated about the upcoming panorama.
He commented that with current vaccines, the immunization they provide and the side effects they could cause do not vary considerably, so one cannot speak of one better or worse than the other. In any case, evolution would come later with new vaccines that cover the spectrum of variants that are emerging, as is the case with influenza.
“I am also convinced that polyvalent vaccines for variants will come in the future, that is, that a vaccine is effective or efficient for several variants, such as with the influenza virus,” he insisted.
Another point that he questioned harshly is when they say that the vaccine does not prevent contagion. Although preventive care must be maintained, which allows to avoid contagion not only of covid-19, but also of other diseases, vaccines can become so effective that they prevent people from developing the disease.
“That is false and it is a misconception, vaccines can be very effective to the point of preventing people from getting infected, it can generate immunity so that people do not get infected or that they get infected and develop the disease but significantly reduces the mortality, ”he said.
Something more unpredictable in the future is how the virus will behave and how humanity will adapt to it. There are two possibilities, that the virus is constantly mutating, which prevents people from acquiring their own immunity, so a constant vaccination will be required, or it could be that the virus does not vary so much, and the immunity acquired with vaccines and with the circulation itself, make the covid-19 stop being so dangerous.
