Alstom Lands $401 Million Train Contract for Washington Suburbs

Good news for the French railway giant Alstom. This Friday, the French multinational announced that it had concluded a contract for the operation and maintenance of trains in the suburbs of Washington with the Maryland Transportation Administration (MTA).

The amount of the basic contract amounts to 367 million euros (401 million dollars) and could be increased to 1.2 billion euros (1.4 billion dollars), in the event of extensions of the contract in 2028, then 2033, the group said in a press release.

Two of Washington’s biggest lines to run

This agreement “provides for the continued operation and maintenance by Alstom of the Camden and Brunswick lines of the MARC (Maryland Area Rail Commuter) network”. Extended, these railway lines are 63 km and 119 km long.

“The Alstom group will be responsible for the operation of trains, customer service, crews, maintenance of the fleet of locomotives and cars, as well as the management of stations and railway facilities,” said the manufacturer. . Finally, the group will be in charge of “a fuel saving project” and “digital innovations”.

This new deal follows another big contract signed in the Philippines in early March. Worth 1.1 billion euros, it provides for the delivery of an integrated rail system, as part of the extension of regional trains from Manila, capital of this South Asian country. -East. As a reminder, in 2012, Alstom acquired Bombardier Transport, another giant in rail transport.
