Also Zola, Festa and Suazo for the last farewell to Andrea Capone

(ANSA) – CAGLIARI, 04 OCT – Church of the Santissimo Crocifisso, in the Genneruxi district of Cagliari, crowded for the last farewell to Andrea Capone, the former Cagliari player who died last Sunday at the age of 43 due to the consequences of an illness and of a fall in a hotel room. The crowd was moved and many champions wanted to pay homage to the rossoblù attacking midfielder, much loved by the fans: from his brotherly friend David Suazo, a teammate first as a youth in the Primavera and then in the first team, to Gianfranco Zola. But among others there were also Gianluca Festa, Gianfranco Matteoli, Francesco Pisano, Emiliano Melis, Marco Sau, Gigi Piras and the Italian champion Mario Brugnera. Cagliari was also present, with sporting director Nereo Bonato, sporting secretary Matteo Stagno, team manager Alessandro Steri, Andrea Cossu, now in the scouting area, and youth sector manager Bernardo Mereu. The banner was supported by two boys from the youth sector. The “Capone 10” shirt was placed on the coffin, the number worn in his last season with the rossoblù. “God has given each of us a task – said the parish priest during the homily – and Andrea has realized his dream, that of moving from the Cep camp to Sant’Elia”. Suazo in tears: it was he who placed the number 10 shirt on the coffin inside the car that transported Capone to the cemetery. A long round of applause greeted the exit from the church: many fans present with red and blue hats and scarves. A Cagliari flag was waved continuously during the ceremony from the balcony of a building overlooking the church. On Capone’s death, the Cagliari Prosecutor’s Office has opened a case against unknown persons with the hypothesis of the crime of failure to provide assistance: a necessary act to proceed with the autopsy and to understand if someone could have helped him, reporting his possible illness before the tragedy and the discovery of the body.
