“Following the new information received from the Norwegian Medicines Agency on the night of Saturday, March 13 and following discussions with the Health Products Regulatory Authority, the National Immunization Advisory Committee recommended that the administration of the Covid-19 vaccine from Oxford-AstraZeneca is temporarily postponed from the morning of Sunday March 14 “, reads the statement from the Irish Health Department, according to local media and international agencies.
The authorities of the European country explained that this recommendation has been made due to information from the Norwegian Medicines Agency “of four new reports of severe blood clotting episodes in adults after vaccination” with the AstraZeneca drug.
Meanwhile, Norwegian officials reported on Saturday that three health workers from the Nordic country recently inoculated with the vaccine were hospitalized after presenting “very unusual symptoms”, among them “Bleeding, blood clots, and a low platelet count.”
This week, Denmark, Bulgaria, Thailand, Norway, Iceland, Austria, Italy and several other countries postponed or limited vaccination with the AstraZeneca drug after reports that some people developed thrombosis after receiving the injection.
