Today there was a long queue at sports hall Cellesbroek on the Akelei for the flu shot. People who were eligible for this received an invitation in the mail earlier.
Due to the corona crisis, more people have gotten a flu shot this year than in other years. As a result, the demand for the flu shot from GPs throughout the Netherlands seems to exceed the number of flu vaccines available. That is why the cabinet has decided to ask healthy people from 60 to 69 years of age not to accept the invitation for the flu shot now unless there is heart disease, kidney disease, diabetes or lung disease.
People between the ages of 73 and 79 are also given a shot that strengthens the defense against pneumococci. (Pneumococci are bacteria that can make elderly people particularly ill)
