Ammon – The city of Ulsan is located in southeastern South Korea at longitude 129.32 and latitude 35.54, and rises ten meters above sea level. Alsan is the largest city in Alsan County, with a population of approximately 96,565 people.
The city features the largest shipyard in the world, and the Hyundai Automotive Assembly Plant, which is the second largest automobile assembly plant in the world. Alsan also includes the second largest oil refinery in the world. In addition, the city contains many tourist attractions such as South Korea’s only whaling museum, the Yeongnam Alps, Ogusan-eunji Village, and a number of large parks.
Ilsan is the most important industrial city in South Korea and is known as Ilsan Industrial Area. It was converted into an open port as part of the country’s economic plan over the first five years, and several major industries were developed in the city such as the automobile industry, the fertilizer industry and the oil refinery.
Also, Ilsan became a major whaling center in South Korea after being selected by the International Whaling Commission in 2005.
Among the prominent tourist attractions in Alsan are the Bangodai Carvings, which are located on the banks of the Lower Western Lake and are considered a reference point in research on rock carving techniques. It was discovered in 1971 and designated a national treasure in 1996. These inscriptions include numbers and geometric symbols etched into the rocks.
Also, it is worth noting that the Hyundai Motor Plant is considered the largest single factory in the world and consists of five independent factories, where about 34,000 parts are produced daily, which equates to 5,400 cars per day. The factory features about 580,000 trees, making it surrounded by forests.
