On July 30 and 31 in Riga, in the cultural space “Hanzas perons” and “Vasaras perona” terrace, a new city festival “Var! To be!”. There will be three stages, where both musicians and DJs will perform.
More than 20 associations of musicians will take part in the city festival, including the Estonian indirock band Ewert And The Two Dragons, the German minimalist pianist Niklas Pašburgs, the pop group Carnival Youth, the jazz band’s very cool people, rap veteran Ozols and the electronic music artist Sign Libra. Well-known artists will perform on the stage of the “Summer Platform”, but the indoor stage of the “Hanseatic Platform” will be dedicated to a more exploratory and intimate musical atmosphere, as well as DJ sets, which will last until three at night.
“Var! To be!” The idea is to revive the much-worn contemporary cultural life of Riga and offer high-quality pop, rock, hip-hop, electronics and other genres of music a real summer festival feeling this year. “Both the organizers, musicians and spectators are literally thirsty for a normal, human and cultural time together,” says Guntis Ērglis-Lācis, one of the organizers of the festival, director of the event agency “Institute of Ideas”. “The long time of various restrictions has made it great to understand that it is really important for a modern person to have a quality rest and socialize with like-minded people, therefore we offer visitors the opportunity to enjoy the full feeling of a summer festival even in simple times.”
“Although several foreign artists will perform at our festival, this is a great rarity at the moment, rather than a common situation, so” Yes! To be!” it is an opportunity to highlight the diversity of Latvian musicians and, in fact, the very high professional level, giving many the opportunity to show themselves to a wider audience and continue to grow, ”emphasizes Ieva Irbina, director of the Hansa Perons cultural space. “The best way to appreciate the quality of our artists is in real live concerts, when musicians create irreplaceable and emotional feedback with the audience. Festival culture is an immortal value, which is once again confirmed by “Can! To be!”.”
Only those who have received a Covid-19 certificate will be able to attend the festival. Tickets for the festival can be purchased from bilesuserviss.lv from July 5.
