Throughout the conflict in Ukraine, Melnik belittled and insulted his then-hosts until they agreed to donate increasingly heavy weapons to his country.
“I know I’m getting a new storm, but I have another creative idea,” said Melnik, who became deputy foreign minister last November, in a tweet on Saturday (28/1/2023).
He explained that ThyssenKrupp’s Class 212A HDW is considered “one of the finest submarines in the world.”

Because of this, according to him, the German military (Bundeswehr) should donate one of the six 212A submarines to Ukraine, where the weapon will, “Dispel the Russian fleet from the Black Sea.”
In a series of responses to his comments, Melnik called on his supporters, “Fight this idea together and encourage Germany and other allies to hand over the submarine.”
If Germany agreed to such a deal, the transport of submarines to the Black Sea would be complicated by Turkey’s closure of the Bosphorus and Dardanelles straits to military ships.

That means, only countries bordering the sea, such as Russia and Ukraine, can launch warships and submarines there.
