Already 25 dead in Jalisco from alcohol ‘El Chorrito’

One more death from adulterated alcohol consumption in southern Jalisco was reported this Saturday, for which there are already 25 dead (23 men and two women), and 76 are also affected.

The municipalities with the most deaths are Tamazula with 14 and Mazamitla with eight. The other deaths have occurred in Zapotiltic (1), Ciudad Guzmán (1) and Sahuayo, Michoacán (1), with an age range of 28 to 83 years. The Ministry of Health reported that of the 76 affected, seven are women and 69 men, in addition 23 people have been discharged.

The affected people in Jalisco are from Tamazula, Mazamitla, Ciudad Guzmán, Zapotiltic, Tuxpan and Valle de Juárez.

The state authority indicated that it continues to monitor and search for more cases, as well as actions to alert the population, health surveillance and verification as part of the investigations in conjunction with other state and municipal authorities.

So far, the Jalisco Prosecutor’s Office has not reported any detainees for the production, distribution or alteration of the drink called “El Chorrito”, which is blamed by health authorities for the intoxication outbreak in the south of the state.
